If you’re a writer, a creative, or boffum, then you understand that the submission process is a numbers game. I’ve been told this again and again, and it’s what I continue to tell myself. It’s kinda like an affirmation…speak it aloud until you embody it as truth. In order to continue to play this numbers game (and to avoid fixating on the state of my Submittable dashboard) I decided to make it make sense through a headass pie chart:
Out of my submissions, 20.8% were accepted and 29.2% were declined. Submissions that were marked as “completed” make up 12.5% of the headass pie chart, and the “In-Progress” category makes up 37.5%.
This week, I’m choosing to carry that last category with me. Almost 40% of my submissions are in progress, which means almost 40% are being considered! Someone somewhere is sitting down and engaging with my writing! The poems and short stories could be declined, or they could be accepted.
The takeaway is that they could be.
